The Guild of Lectors

Lectors are charged with the proclamation of the word of God during the liturgy, particularly with the public reading of the Old Testament Lesson during the Mass.  This is not merely a duty to recite, but, through their reading, a Lector is called to interpret, to render clear and alive the Lively Word of God.  Lectors share in a prophetic vocation (they speak the words of the prophets and announce the Word of God) as well as an angelic one—indeed, like the angels (which word comes from the Greek for “messenger”) they declare the good news of God’s good will for us.
