Bishop and Martyr of Carthage
d. September 14, 258
An orator and teacher of rhetoric, Saint Cyprian wrote many epistles and treatises. In On the Lord’s Prayer, he wrote: ‚ÄúWe say ‘Hallowed be thy Name,’ not that we want God to be made holy by our prayers, but because we seek from the Lord that his Name may be made holy in us, . . . so that we who have been made holy in Baptism may persevere in what we have begun to be.‚Äù
Cyprian contniues to inspire. The Rector, at the close of his September 2012 Chronicle, quoted Cyprian extensively as inspiration for dealing with adversity. Read his Chronicle here.
