Children and Families Update for November 23, 2025

Dear families,
We’re officially on the road to Christmas and preparing for our Crèche Service! Rehearsals will be on Saturday, December 6 from 9:30–12:00, and the Crèche Service will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 4:00pm, with food afterward in Andrew Hall and rehearsals beginning at 1:30pm.
But first, this Sunday is Christ the King.
Luke’s Gospel, which we’ve been hearing throughout the year, is filled with language about kingship and the kingdom of God. Luke writes in a way that clearly challenges the political messaging of his time. Though Caesar appears to hold absolute power, though his appointed rulers use fear to control the people, and though the Temple leadership is often co-opted against the people, Luke insists that Jesus is the true King.
All four Gospels tell us that an inscription was placed above Jesus on the cross reading, “King of the Jews.” Inscriptions were common on Roman crosses, usually stating the crime for which someone was executed. For Rome, any claim to kingship was treason and a direct threat to Caesar. For the Jewish leaders, a false claim to kingship was both dangerous under Roman rule and blasphemous.
Christ the King Sunday invites us to take Jesus’ kingship seriously. It is his claim to absolute authority and true dominion. But because his reign is rooted in love, he does not rule in the ways we expect, nor with the heavy hand we sometimes wish for. The one through whom all things were created hung on a cross, charged with what he truly is: a King.
Grace and peace,
Father Preston

Intermediate learned about Jacob’s wrestling and how God blessed him and changed his name to Israel.
Faith Alive, after discussing Cain and Abel, learned of Moses and the complicated story of the people of God in the midst of enslavement.
