Writing shortly after the composer’s death in 1924, Albert Roussel characterized Fauré as an essentially French genius: ‘he occupied a place apart in the history of music and, without noise or fuss or meaningless gestures, he pointed the way toward marvelous horizons.’
These comments might apply to any of the works represented in this exceptional CD, but they were surely coined with Fauré’s masterpiece, the Requiem, in mind. Read more in the CD Booklet.
