The Tenth Sunday After Pentecost

The Tenth Sunday After Pentecost

Grant to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as are right, that we, who cannot exist without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Proper 14)

From today’s Gospel: And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.[Image from the Communion Window of Saint Thomas Church.]

Choral Eucharist this morning is sung by members of the Saint Thomas Girls’ Course, alongside the Gentlemen of the Choir.

In 2005, music directors in the New York area expressed interest in joining together to form a chorister experience of the highest caliber for girls. The Choir School was delighted to offer space, resources and experience to the endeavor. Since then, the Choir School has proudly taken full ownership of the course and developed a schedule and musical standard parallel to that of the boys during the academic terms. In 2008, the course expanded to nine days. In 2012, the Course began on Saturday, July 28th and concludes today, August 5th. In addition to singing this morning, the girls sang on Tuesday and Thursday at two special summertime Choral Evensongs.

‚ñ∫The Rector speaks about the Girls’ Course in his weekly audio message.

Included in this Choral Eucharist are hymns sung by the congregation and choir, additional music sung exclusively by the choir, lessons, prayers, a sermon, and a Rite I Mass. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Details of the service may be seen in the leaflet, which is posted at the bottom of this page, where you will also find links to the webcast during and after the service.
