O God, who declarest thy almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Mercifully grant unto us such a measure of thy grace, that we, running to obtain thy promises, may be made partakers of thy heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. What is the ethical content of the Psalms, and how is their instruction conveyed? These are the questions behind the new Sunday class, “The Ethics of the Psalms,” which begins September 16. Visitors welcome any Sunday at 10 a.m. on the 5th floor.

Today’s topic involves the structure of the Psalter, the particular themes of some of its “books,” and a bit of the history of the critical scholars and their questions of when the psalms were written, by whom, and for what purpose; and then why were they arranged as we have them?
