What is the ethical content of the Psalms, and how is their instruction conveyed? These are the questions behind the Sunday class, “The Ethics of the Psalms,” which continues on Sunday mornings through December. Visitors welcome any Sunday at 10 a.m. on the 5th floor.

Today’s topic is on the virtues in the Psalms. These are shown by the character called “the righteous,” and our task will be to identify what makes him righteous, how he lives, how he relates to others and to God. The Psalms have several very particular things to say about the virtues of the righteous. One important point is that the Psalms show the righteous as following a path of imitation of God. You might look at the verbal parallels between Psalms 111 and 112.
