The Annunciation

The Annunciation

We beseech thee, O Lord, pour thy grace into our hearts, that we who have known the incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his cross and passion be brought unto the glory of his resurrection; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Today at Choral Evensong, we are pleased to welcome Fr James Cooper of Trinity Wall Street, who preaches Sermon 9 of our 15-part series on prayer called “Lord, Teach Us to Pray.” The sermon today is on “and lead us not into tempatation” from the Lord’s Prayer. See the complete list of sermons in the series here.

About Choral Evensong: Based on the services held daily in the medieval Church, Choral Evensong as arranged in the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Church has been sung regularly since the Sixteenth Century. Many people who are new to worship at Saint Thomas prefer to come to Choral Evensong because it is relatively contemplative. The service includes readings (just as would occur at Evening Prayer) and prayers led by a priest. An anthem as well as a setting of the Magnificat and the Nunc dimittis are sung by the choir. Read more about Choral Evensong here, or view the Choral Evensong Service Card posted to the bottom of this page, where links to the webcast will be posted during and after the service.

‚ñ∫There is no Mass following Choral Evensong on Sundays. If you would like to make your Holy Communion for the week, consider attending one of the morning Eucharists, or else at any of the other sixteen masses at Saint Thomas later this week.

‚ñ∫ The Feast of the Annuncation is today, March 25. However, because this year March 25 is also the Fifth Sunday in Lent, we have translated the feast over to Tuesday, March 27, when we will celebrate with two said masses at 8am and 12:10pm in the Lady Chapel, and also a Festal Eucharist sung by the Gentlemen of the Choir at the High Altar at 5:30pm. The Rector speaks about the Annunciation ,as well as about the upcoming concert of Bach’s St John Passion on March 30, in his weekly audio message.
