The Epiphany

The Epiphany

O God, who by the leading of a star didst manifest thy only-begotten Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know thee now by faith, to thy presence, where we may behold thy glory face to face; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Above: The choir stalls of Saint Thomas Church are beautifully decorated with wood carved by the Boston firm of Irving and Casson according to the design specifications of Bertram Goodhue. This carving, on the south side of the chancel, shows the Magi arriving with their gifts for the Christ child. Although the Gospel according to Matthew makes it clear that it took awhile for the Magi to find Jesus, and also makes it clear that they found Jesus in a house with his mother, nevertheless it is common for representations of the manger scene to include the adoration of Christ by Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, the angels, the cattle and the Magi all gathered together at the manger rail.

Included in this Festal Eucharist are hymns sung by the congregation and choir, additional music sung exclusively by the choir, lessons, prayers, a sermon, and a Rite I Mass. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Details of the service may be seen in the leaflet, which is posted at the bottom of this page, where you will also find links to the webcast during and after the service.

‚ñ∫The Rector speaks about the Epiphany in his weekly audio message.
