The Fifth Sunday Of Easter
O Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know thy Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leadeth to eternal life; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Sunday class continues the series Testaments, Old and New, studying how the Hebrew scriptures are interpreted within the New Testament itself. In this session, we look at the way in which the gospel of John refers to the story of the Passover from Exodus chapter 12. Several times in John we are told that Jesus is the “Lamb of God.” This central theme of the gospel is a reference to the Passover lamb, sacrificed to save the Hebrews in Egypt, and commemorated annually thereafter. John thus presents the death of Jesus as the final sacrifice, one which takes away the sin of the world.
