This series looks at the ways in which the Gospel writers interpreted the Hebrew scriptures within the texts of the gospels themselves. The lectures draw on recent Biblical scholarship, including the new Echoes of Scripture in the Gospels by Richard B. Hays.

In this session, we look at the way in which Genesis appears in the epistles of St. Paul and St. James. Paul and James both refer to the righteousness of Abraham, taken from Genesis 15:6, but in different ways. These differences are theologically significant, raising questions about justification and the relationship between faith and works.
