What is the ethical content of the Psalms, and how is their instruction conveyed? These are the questions behind the new Sunday class, “The Ethics of the Psalms,” which begins September 16. Visitors welcome any Sunday at 10 a.m. on the 5th floor.
Today’s topic: Father Austin turns to the narrative psalms‚Äîthe ones that tell stories of Israel’s history, in Egypt, in the Exodus, in the wilderness, entering the promised land, and so forth. What is the ethical teaching of the narrative psalms? This is a way, also, to think about ‚Äúnarrative ethics‚Äù in general, its strengths and weaknesses for our moral life.
